NINTH LEGION PRODUCTIONS

Before the rise of the Empire... In 53 BC 10,000 Roman soldiers disappeared. The Roman 9th was the Republic's largest Legion. The fiercest and most skilled legionaries, exemplary Romans whose General and benefactor was said by both senate and citizenry, to embody the spirit of the republic and all it stood for. Many speculate the fate of the fabled Legio IX Romana, just as we at NINTH LEGION PRODUCTIONS speculate the fate of a cinema lost or forgotten, but certainly missing, much like The Roman IXth Legion, but more like the VHS tape.

Formed around the idea of a film, rather than for one. We aim to wildly invent genre pieces undeniably inspired by hazy childhood memories of Saturday morning cartoons, Kung-Fu matinees, and midnight movies. Social satires that don't shy from controversy. Darkly comic neo-genre narratives about “slasher” stalking reporters and flawed detectives battling monsters of all kinds. Those hit men with hearts of gold, morally ambiguous gunslingers and of course, that man or woman inside us all, whom just need a break from reality for 90 minutes. Visceral cinematic experience is the standard for our stories, substance + style readily recognizable as Ninth Legion Productions.

“My mother took me to my first Broadway show when I was about 4 or 5, but my father had taken me to the cinema every Friday after school for as long as I can remember, usually to see whatever he wanted to see. Imagine a 5-year-old kid sitting through Cats on Broadway on a Saturday afternoon, only the night before, he was sitting in a dark theater watching Anne Parillaud and Jean Reno dissolve a body in a bath tub in Luc Besson’s "La Femme Nikita"… and that movie had subtitles. It was a steady diet of genre pastiche. I pretty much knew I’d want to be a storyteller the rest of my life by the time I was 12.”

Born and raised in Queens Village, NY he was brought up on a healthy diet of private schooling, Broadway Theater, Cinema, and comic books. The Penn State University alumn, began studies in film history, genre theory, Direction and Production, and completed his college career focusing his craft on screen-writing and American cinema aesthetics. Dana graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film-Video production from Pennsylvania State University’s College of Communications.
